Today, we discuss technology and its potential to enhance our lives as equestrians. The digital landscape is brimming with equestrian apps offering innovative solutions for riders, trainers, breeders, and stable managers around the globe. As we gallop (or trot) into 2024, a new wave of equestrian apps has emerged.
From tracking your rides to monitoring your horse’s health and fitness, or even providing virtual coaching, these apps equip the digital stable like never before. This article explores the top equestrian apps of 2024, highlighting their features, user-friendly interfaces, and how they revolutionize the equestrian experience. I’ve also incorporated screenshots and insights from my experience to offer a more personal perspective.
I’ve included apps from various categories, such as the best horse riding apps with tracking functionalities, as well as stable management apps and those dedicated to horse care. If you’re into competitions, you’ll find the official FEI apps here as well, along with others related to training and virtual coaching apps for specific disciplines like dressage, show jumping, or reining.
Finally, a table at the end categorizes the available equestrian apps on the App Store and Google Play by category, making it easier to find the perfect app for your needs.
Here’s the list of the top equestrian apps 2024:
- Equilab - Track your rides and join the community challenges
- HoofmApp - Easily Assess Your Horse’s Hooves
- Equester - The Equestrian App of the UAE
- Equimap - Equestrian booking app for the Middle East riders
- Equicty - The most advanced stable management App available

Equilab – Track your rides and join the community challenges
Equilab is arguably one of the most acclaimed equestrian apps in 2024. Not only can you track your rides with GPS, but you can also choose and join from a variety of challenges to keep yourself motivated and your horse fit.
From my perspective, it’s probably one of the best apps for horse riding, no matter where you’re located. The tracking functionality is very accurate; it works even when riding in the arena or smaller areas. It provides me with a lot of useful insights into my rides and enables me to make informed decisions on how to increase training difficulty for my horse.
The Equilab app is available for both Android and iOS phones and works on nearly every device, so you don’t have to worry about getting any extra IoT device to track your rides.
What’s included in Equilab’s free account
You can enjoy the free version with no time restrictions. It’s very easy and quick to create an account, add your horses, track your rides, join community challenges, and add your friends to your circle.
Key horse tracking analytics in the free version include distance and speed, as well as gait recognition, transitions, stride length, turns, and elevation. The horse tracking app also estimates the amount of energy expended by both the horse and rider.
In this equestrian app, you can compare your average training with other sessions tracked in Equilab. Choose any discipline you wish to compare with, and this is what the graphs will display:
Equilab Pro Version
In the Equilab Pro version, you will mainly find nice add-ons to the free features such as:
- Safety tracking, allowing you to share your live location with your contacts while tracking your ride.
- The option to add unlimited horses. Personally, I don’t find this feature very useful unless you are a stable manager. While we all dream of having unlimited horses, the majority of us have one or two on average.
- A reward program that includes some major equestrian brands such as Dark Horse Equestrian, Equidry, Equicoat & Fetlox, and many more.
However, you can also benefit from the audio coach, detailed stats about your rides, and a shared equestrian calendar to sync your horse’s farrier, vet, and other professionals’ appointments.
To be honest, as a non-professional rider, I never felt the need to upgrade. I’m content with the free version, but perhaps this serves as a good reason for the Equilab team to review their business model.
What’s the Equilab feature that I like the most?
In this equestrian app, I personally appreciate the Challenge section. Since I mostly ride alone, it is difficult to stay motivated in the long term. Joining the riding challenges gives me that extra reason not to skip training. There are various kinds of challenges to choose from, including those based on the number of rides or distance covered. Not all challenges are publicly shared, and not all of them are available in the free version. However, I do appreciate the possibility to see how I’m performing on a specific challenge compared to other community members.
Pro tip: Pause the ride if you want to take a photo or video. The gait recognition sometimes stops working after switching to the camera without pausing the ride.
Overall evaluation of the Equilab App from 0-10:
- Features: 9
- Interface: 7
- Ease of use: 10
- Usefulness: 8
HoofmApp – Easily Assess Your Horse’s Hooves
HoofmApp is the perfect equestrian app for horse owners meticulous about their horse’s hooves. Although it is not immediately intuitive to grasp how to use this app (it’s likely designed for farriers rather than average equestrians), it is a professional tool that helps in conducting a comprehensive assessment of your horse’s hooves.
While this app is not intended to replace the professional assessment of a farrier, it is immensely helpful in times of uncertainty.
I personally used it on my horse Yazan when he began acting strangely under saddle, refusing to even walk after a change in farriers. It helped me discover that within just 2 sessions, he had almost completely lost the heels on both front and back hooves, leaving the poor horse feeling very uncomfortable.
How Does HoofmApp Work?
Firstly, you need to take clear pictures of your horse’s hooves, ensuring you avoid any perspective effects.
For the lateral views, I personally kneel at the height of the horse’s knees and position myself directly at the horse’s side, either at shoulder level or at the back hinds. It’s also advisable to lower the device to almost ground level to avoid any top-to-bottom perspectives. You need to take an orthogonal photo of your horse’s front and back hooves, ideally capturing images of all four to assess any morphological differences.
For the sole view, which is a bit easier, lift each of your horse’s hooves one by one and place your device perpendicularly to the hoof sole. Make sure to include the entire sole and leave some margins.
The image layers
You can choose between two views: the lateral view and the sole view.
For the lateral view, there are different layers to add, depending on what you are trying to evaluate in the photo. You can choose from the following options (or add them all together):
- The center of rotation
- Base split proportions
- Heel to toe height ratio
- Heel to toe angle difference
- Pastern angle
Each of these layers needs to be adjusted over the image (and this is the challenging part) before moving on to add the next layer.
As for the sole view, the process is the same, and you can add the following layers:
- The center of rotation
- Heel-to-toe base proportions
If you need additional help, here’s an official PDF manual to assist you in uploading your first photo and selecting a template.
I would then leave the interpretation of the pictures to a professional farrier. 🙂
Overall evaluation of HoofmApp from 0-10:
- Features: 8
- Interface: 8
- Ease of use: 5 (it would easily be a 10 with some additional guides on how to interpret the results)
- Usefulness: 10
Equester – The Equestrian App of the UAE
One of the few apps made in the UAE for the UAE, Equester app was recently launched to provide the easiest solution for booking your next horse riding hack or lessons anywhere in the United Arab Emirates. Alongside rides, you can also find a directory featuring equine veterinary clinics, tack shops, and trainers.
This equestrian app is also developing a comprehensive directory for horses available for sale or lease in the UAE – something I’m looking forward to!
While they have just begun and there are not yet many businesses listed within the app, I believe it is worth mentioning Equester in the list of the best equestrian apps for 2024.
Overall, this equestrian app presents a great opportunity for the local equestrian market to go digital, aiding riders and horse owners in finding everything they need for their horses in one place. I appreciate this app because it not only focuses on the “fun part” of horse riding, such as booking desert hacks, but also gives considerable attention to horse management aspects.
My favorite feature on the Equester App:
I particularly value the veterinary list. While I hope we never need an equine doctor for an emergency, it provides great reassurance to have a full list of available veterinarians on my phone.
Overall evaluation of the Equester App from 0-10:
- Features: 7
- Interface: 6
- Ease of use: 9
- Usefulness: 9
Equimap – Equestrian booking app for the Middle East riders
Equimap aims to become the number one equestrian booking app in the Middle East. As the app’s name suggests, Equimap’s goal is to offer a detailed map of equestrian facilities in the Middle East. Additionally, as a Sportstech Company, you can find on the app comprehensive equestrian training packages, exhilarating safari trips, engaging events, thrilling competitions.
You can register on Equimap as a rider or a service provider. The app is overall very simple to use, with a minimalistic design that makes it accessible for everyone.
Ultimately, you can find a small sponsored e-commerce section and a nice directory to book your next horse riding holiday.
My favorite feature on Equimap:
Definitely the categorization by discipline. It’s a time-saver for those seeking lessons in a specific discipline rather than generic riding lessons. This equestrian app makes it very easy for people who don’t have time to filter between disciplines or locations to find their next equestrian facility.
Overall evaluation of the Equimap App from 0-10:
- Features: 6
- Interface: 7
- Ease of use: 9
- Usefulness: 8
Equicty – The most advanced stable management App available
Equicty stands as the most advanced stable management solution available on the digital market today, simplifying the job of stable managers by keeping track of schedules and expenses, all in one place.
Unfortunately, I haven’t had the opportunity to try this app firsthand (as I don’t own a stable), but I’ve been reading all about the community reviews online.
Some of the main features include horse listing, workout scheduling, and the ability to record health activities (such as vaccines, vet, or farrier appointments) for all the horses in the stable.
The Equicty app is a multilingual and collaborative tool designed to allow all team members to coordinate for the wellbeing of our horses. With the option to assign roles and viewing permissions to each user, it becomes even easier to involve external professionals such as farriers to stay up to date with each horse’s personal schedule.
It’s definitely an all-in-one solution for advanced managers who want to bring innovation to their equestrian business. That’s what it makes the best equestrian app for stable management in 2024.
Nightwatch – An equine distress & wellness monitor that could save your horse’s life
Nightwatch is an IoT Smart Halter equipped with sensors that allow you to remotely monitor and track your horse’s heart rate and respiratory activity. This product, when used with the accompanying equestrian app, has the potential to save any horse’s life.
While it works with any horse, those in special conditions can benefit the most from this high-tech halter. It is specifically designed for various conditions:
- Pregnant Mares: To closely monitor pregnant mares for complications before, during, and after foaling.
- Foals: To be alerted to early signs of birth/parturition and act promptly in case of emergency.
- High-Risk Horses: For acute and chronic conditions, it aids in monitoring a sick, injured, or senior horse at home. The Smart Halter shares biometric and behavioral insights in real-time on your phone, assisting you in making informed decisions.
Unfortunately, the Smart Halter that works in conjunction with the Nightwatch equestrian app is not currently available. However, a new generation of halter is on the horizon, and you can still request updates by registering your interest here.
Nightwatch is available on a paid version only.
Horserider SOS – Automated alerts to your contacts in case of emergency
Horserider SOS is a simple and effective app that sends your live location to your emergency contacts when riding alone.
How often have we been told that riding alone is dangerous, especially for women? But for some of us, it is also the purest expression of our passion for horses and provides the greatest sense of freedom. With Horserider SOS, you no longer have to give up riding alone.
It’s all included in 4 simple pages. All you need to do is set up your emergency contact, tap on “start riding,” and the app does the rest. This equestrian app sends an alarm to your chosen contact if you stop moving. The alert will also include your exact GPS coordinates to ensure a prompt rescue in case of an emergency. Horse tracking functionalities, such as those offered by Horserider SOS, have proven to be the best asset for solo riders. Why not rely on technology when such a simple solution can truly make a difference in emergencies?
You can watch the demo video of Horserider SOS here:

Hi guys,
Great post, just wondering if you can add Equitask to the list? My wife (equestrian), I (saas CEO) and dev team designed the Equitask app to meet our basic horse management needs and have now released to the world. Check it out!
Equitask is on Apple and Android from the app stores. It helps manage horse profiles, notes, photos, reminders (and recurring), feed charts and also lets you share horse data with others (friends, helpers, vets etc). You can also transfer ownership if you sell. The plans are for solo equestrians and horsey families. Very easy to use!
Have a play!
Hello Julian!
Yes sure, give me some time to try the app and add it to the article!!
